RCC-3D: Qualitative Spatial Reasoning in 3D
نویسندگان
چکیده
Qualitative Spatial Reasoning (QSR) theories have applications in areas such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), robotics, biomedicine, and engineering. However, existing QSR theories primarily have been applied only to 2D data. Herein we introduce a 3D reasoning system that is based on Generalized 2D Region Connection Calculus (GRCC). Our theory, RCC-3D, supports a priori knowledge of the extent of each object. It also provides occlusion support by considering the projections of 3D objects on 2D space. Further, we demonstrate how this model is applied to a particular domain such as anatomy.

Efficient Reasoning with RCC-3D
Qualitative spatial reasoning is an important function of the human brain. Artificial systems that can perform such reasoning have many applications such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), robotics, biomedicine, and engineering. Automation of such analytical processes alleviates manual labor, and may increase the accuracy of the spatial assessments because the reasoning can be done object...
متن کاملReducing 9-Intersection to 4-Intersection for Identifying Relations in Region Connection Calculus
Several region connection calculi have been proposed for use in Qualitative Spatial Reasoning (QSR). Perhaps the most well-known model is RCC-8, which uses a 9-Intersection framework to identify the spatial relation between two regions. The calculation of the 9-Intersection matrix is particularly computationintensive in 3D. Herein we show that 9-Intersection calculations can be replaced with 2-...
متن کاملA More Expressive 3D Region Connection Calculus
Spatial qualitative analysis in 3D provides engineers with the ability to visually evaluate interference between parts, complicated geometric features, required tolerances, mechanism motion, and various aspects of assembly structure. Yet, despite the fact that 3D technology has been well developed for several years, many mechanical engineering designers currently do not use 3D CAD technology, a...
متن کاملEvolution of Region Connection Calculus to VRCC-3D+
Qualitative spatial reasoning (QSR) is useful for deriving logical inferences when quantitative spatial information is not available. QSR theories have applications in areas such as geographic information systems, spatial databases, robotics, and cognitive sciences. The existing QSR theories have been applied primarily to 2D. The ability to perform QSR over a collection of 3D objects is desirab...
متن کاملمدلسازی روابط توپولوژیک سه بعدی فازی در محیط GIS
Nowadays, geospatial information systems (GIS) are widely used to solve different spatial problems based on various types of fundamental data: spatial, temporal, attribute and topological relations. Topological relations are the most important part of GIS which distinguish it from the other kinds of information technologies. One of the important mechanisms for representing topological relations...
